AWR (American Wrestling Rampage) from MPI offers an American-style professional wrestling show complete with top stars from the USA and around the globe. With high-risk, fast-paced action throughout, fans have already been left craving more in arenas in Ireland, France, Belgium and Switzerland. In 2009 AWR are getting ready set to delight fans in Germany, the UK and the Far East. The shows have also been broadcast on live TV across France on channel W9 during the November 2008 tour, with a viewership of 4 million people.
The first show on the leg of the French tour last November in the Palais De Sport in Paris was televised live with a viewer ship of 4 million. On 18th March 2009 we are back in Paris where the show will again be televised. The shows drew numbers from 2000 per night to 4500 all over Ireland and France.
Such world-renowned stars as former WWE Intercontinental Champion Test as well as former WWE Tag Team Champions Scotty "The Hotty", U-Gene and Rene Dupree were all part of this massive tour. They joined the likes of the originals from Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) Sabu and Balls Mahoney and the tour even saw the return to pro wrestling of the original wrestling diva, Tammy Sytch, otherwise known as Sunny in the WWE.
While fans got to witness their all time favourites inside the ring, they were also treated to some of the up-and-comers in the wrestling business. Certainly future main eventers such as The Suicide Machine, "Hott Stuff" Joey Cabray, Dunkan Disorderly, Shawn Maxer Brennan and others provided wrestling fans with superb matches, some of which are described as being the best of the tour overall.
In addition to all of this, it was certainly a very special moment for thousands of fans across Ireland and France as their hero Bret "Hitman" Hart made a very rare appearance, as he stood in the AWR ring to address his legions of fans, thanking them for their support over the years. Bret had not appeared on a wrestling promotion in years. This truly was a monumental time for everyone in attendance.
Already planned for 2009, the stars of AWR will spend the months of March and April in Europe with a massive arena tour covering France, Belgium, and Switzerland. Former WWE World Champion and ECW original Rob Van Dam has been signed for the tour. Also rumoured to appear is the man formally known as Chris Masters, Chris Mordetzky, Scotty "The Hotty", Gangrel, and the fabulous Mexican mini wrestlers. We will then return to Ireland and the UK for a fabulous summer tour in August 2009 with an even better line up of stars and finish off the year by returning to France and Germany on November.
